Some of us are pedestrians because we hate driving. Walking is a healthy and smart way to cut down on transportation costs and the gym bill. Take time to celebrate nature by walking through it! Now that I am also riding a bicycle, this blog will feature some of my thoughts on this new mode of transportation.

Walking Everywhere, and Anywhere!
Every now and then I will update this blog with thoughts about walking, and being a pedestrian in Southern California. Between 2014-2017, this blog also featured several posts about my bicycle adventures around Southern California, but as of 2018 I am back to just being a pedestrian. Riding a bike was fun until someone through a water bottle in my chain one day late at night, so since that time I have just felt safer walking.

Walking Six Miles In The Rain
A six mile round trip walk in the Southern California rain can be enjoyable once or twice a month, but I sure hope it stops raining sometime tonight Also, as I was walking today I had to be more careful than on dry days because cars were hydroplaning, and some motorists tend to be more aggressive during rainstorms. A few did not even want to stop for the pedestrians at the walking light, but there is nothing new about that. Walking is a work out in itself, and on a raining day you have to be very vigilante for your safety. One thing I recommend is a good structured umbrella and a warm coat as the regalia needed for staying dry and warm while walking during heavy rainstorms.

Walking Around In January
These pictures were taken last week on my walk after the snow fall in the local mountains. The temperature was unusually cold that day, at around 40 degrees in the afternoon, but the clouds and snow capped mountains made for the most splendid photographing opportunities. Also, the palm trees look amazing with sunlight reflecting through, and creating a hazy effect that was achieved without photo editing software.

Flat Shoes For Comfort
Flat shoes are one of the best things you can wear for comfort, and these can be very cute as well. You will not catch practical pedestrians wearing high heels, and honestly I stopped wearing heels of any kind when I realized I look just as cute in flats

What If You Do Not Want A Driver's License?
Do you hate having to explain this to people who think driving is the only way to get around? The good news that attitudes towards being a pedestrian are actually changing, and if you live in an urban area you are more likely to have access to good public transportation. Also, you can plan things out so you are within walking distance of most things you want to see and do, and walking and biking to commute are very viable options today.
So are you tired of people asking you why you do not have a driver license? The good news you are not obligated to explain this to people, and the incessant busy bodies will stop inquiring if you never bring it up.
Living in an urban area means you might even connect with fellow pedestrians as well. Besides, walking and biking are great work outs and save on the gym bill. Pedestrians are green to begin with, and we are greener than people who own smart cars. This is not about being smug, and I have nothing against people who choose to drive, but the truth is when I was younger I felt grilled by people who believed driving was the only way to get around.
If you are tired of being told that you have to get a license and a car, then stop feeling like you have to do this. I think being an introvert made being a pedestrian less of a stretch for me because I have always pretty much done my own thing, and I never really tried to live up to social expectations.

Beautiful Trees Spotted During A Walk In The San Bernardino Mountains
During Thanksgiving I took a break from my usual walks around the city to enjoy a few strolls up in the San Bernardino Mountains. The golden leaves of the oak trees were truly mesmerizing in late November, and got me in the mood for the commencement of the holiday season.

The Holiday Season And Walking Off The Pie
The holiday season is now upon us as we enter into November, but I have already been in a pie baking frenzy for over a month now. A large part of this is because I have mass quantities of fruit that I want to preserve and use so that it does not go to waste, but I have also discovered that I really love making pies. With all of these extra calories around the house, it is easy to put on pounds. More than ever I am happy that I am a pedestrian so that I can burn off calories, and that I do not have to schedule gym sessions.
One of my favorite aspects of living in Southern California is watching the sun glimmer off the tops of palm trees, and witnessing a breath taking sunset as I am walking home around five or so. If you are stuck in a gym on a tread mill you will never be able to appreciate those things. Life is slower as a pedestrian, and I am thankful for this.

Pedestrianism Saves On Oil And Helps The Environment
Here is something I am seeing as a pedestrian during the presidential debate over oil prices, why not encourage more walking and biking? Maybe if people were walking more and driving less, then we could save on gas. I know I do not have to spend money on gas, and I can buy a bus ticket when I need to go on longer trips.
